Chris Powell: Southend United sack manager with academy chief Ricky Duncan installed as interim boss
Chris Powell has been sacked as manager of Southend United, the League One club have confirmed.Powell, the former England international, has been in charge at Roots Hall since January 2018, but is dismissed after a run of 11 games without a win.Southend’s poor form leaves them outside the relegation places only due to their goal difference.“It is with much regret that the club has this morning terminated Chris Powells contract,” a Southend statement read. “The results over a number of weeks, eleven games without a win, has impacted all concerned and immediate changes needed to be made. The clubs interests are paramount, but the board are nevertheless disappointed to see Chris Powell leave.”Ricky Duncan, the club’s academy chief, has been installed as interim manager following Powell’s dismissal.
