Tottenham have been told to stay at Wembley for the remainder of the season unless they can play at least five Premier League matches at their new stadium.Spurs confirmed earlier this week that they will play March 2’s north London derby at their temporary home, with Arsenal visiting Wembley hoping to do the league double over Mauricio Pochettino’s side for the season.2

The next possible home fixture is against Crystal Palace on March 17, though that game may have to be rearranged should the Eagles book their place in the FA Cup sixth-round by defeating Doncaster next weekend.Spurs’ next match after that couldalso be rearranged, as the visit of Brighton on April 6 coincidences with the FA Cup semi-finals – which are, of course, played at Wembley.The Palace match is Tottenham’s fifth remaining home match of the season, though if that is scheduled for a different date, the Brighton match will become the fifth from final home fixture. And, according to the Standard, the Premier League want Spurs to remain at Wembley for the remainder of the season unless they can guarantee at least five matches will be played at the new stadium.It is reported conversations between Premier League chiefs and the club have taken place over identifying a moving-in date, though no ultimatum has been issued to Tottenham as the League are believed to be sympathetic to their position.2

Tottenham have been stuck at Wembley for far longer than expected

The ‘Tottenham Hotspur Arena’ was scheduled to open last September but continuous delays have pushed the date further and further back. Two test events of increasing attendance must be held at the ground for it to be awarded a safety certificate, and no dates have, as of yet, been provided for said events.Last week, around 1,000 supporters were invited to the stadium for a Super Bowl viewing party. The east stand was opened for the first time, and fans got the chance to see hospitality lounges and catering areas. as well as the all-important part of the ground – the pitch.
